Legislative Coordinator - Colorado Senate Majority

  • The Colorado State Senate Majority Office is seeking a Legislative Coordinator for the 2024 legislative session to aid the caucus in executing our outreach, communications, and legislative agenda. The Legislative Coordinator will be an integral member of the Majority caucus staff and will support all 23 members of the Colorado Senate Majority and will report to the Senior Policy Analyst.

    In assisting the caucus staff and members, this position will provide support for several key functions of the team. In working with the Communications Team, the Legislative Coordinator will help conduct media monitoring and draft a wide range of communications materials including press releases, media advisories and social media content such as copy, graphics, photos and videos. This role will also assist in planning, executing, and staffing press events centered around raising awareness of the legislative process with the press corps and the public.This position will also assist in drafting constituent responses and newsletters. Finally, the Legislative Coordinator will assist the Policy Team in reading, analyzing and tracking legislation as bills move through the legislative process, staffing committee hearings, vetting Senate confirmed appointees, and executing research requests from members. This is a necessarily dynamic role on our team that will ensure our caucus is successful in the 2024 legislative session.

  • ★ Conduct policy research and analysis for caucus members developing legislation

    ★ Read and analyze bills before introduction to provide brief summaries and note any potential concerns

    ★ Attend committee hearings and provide a detailed report out for the Joint Technology Committee (JTC) and the Capital Development Committee (CDC), as well as occasionally other committees of reference as needed

    ★ Research and vet Senate confirmed appointees to boards and commissions

    ★ Assist in drafting communications materials including, but not limited to press releases, media advisories, letters to the editor and op-eds with clear, clean, concise, and accurate prose under deadline pressure

    ★ Create content for caucus social channels to highlight legislative accomplishments and advance the message of the caucus and/or individual senators

    ★ Assist in the creation and editing of graphics, photo, and video content to highlight individual senator and caucus achievements

    ★ Scan relevant media outlets and compile & distribute news clips for members and staff weekly

    ★ Assist with drafting constituent responses and newsletters

  • ★ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with impeccable attention to detail

    ★ Strong critical thinking skills with an orientation toward problem solving

    ★ Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

    ★ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with desire to work on a team

    ★ Strong drive and self-motivation; a willingness to work long hours on occasion and under tight deadlines

    ★ Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adjust to shifting priorities

    ★ Proven track record of managing multiple projects at once and prioritizing time effectively

    ★ A passion for progressive politics

  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and within the range of $50,000-60,000 annually. This is a session-only position, with a flexible start date between November - January and concluding in May. We provide a competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance covered mostly by the employer, life insurance covered by the employer, and your choice of a Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution PERA retirement plan. Additionally, we provide four PTO days and two paid state/federal holidays for the duration of the legislative session.
